MaPrimeRénov' resumes with a lighter budget

The MaPrimeRénov' energy renovation aid scheme resumes on Tuesday, October 1, but with a budget cut of one billion euros. This measure aims to support low-income households in their insulation works, despite budgetary constraints. The government hopes to relaunch the program while controlling spending.

The MaPrimeRénov' program, launched in 2020 to encourage energy renovations of homes, was suspended in July 2025 due to an influx of applications and budget overruns. According to the Ministry of Ecological Transition, over 1.2 million files were processed last year, costing 5.2 billion euros.

The resumption takes effect from October 1, 2025, but the budget ceiling for 2025-2026 is set at 4 billion euros, compared to the initially planned 5 billion. This one-billion reduction aims to 'ensure the sustainability of the scheme,' explained Ecology Minister Sophie Primas in a press release. 'We must balance household support and public finance control,' she added.

The aids remain targeted at low-income households, with subsidies up to 90% of work costs for the most vulnerable. Sector professionals, such as the Union of Proximity Businesses (Unep), welcome the resumption but regret the lighter budget. 'This risks limiting access for many households,' said its president, Patrick Liébus.

This program fits into the France 2030 plan for energy transition, aiming to reduce CO2 emissions from buildings, which account for 18% of France's emissions. However, associations like France Rénov' fear a slowdown in construction sites, as 4.8 million homes are considered 'energy sieves.' The government plans a mid-2026 evaluation to adjust future envelopes.
