Former doubles world No. 8 Max Purcell is set to return to the ATP Tour after completing an 18-month suspension. The Australian player posted on Instagram confirming the end of his ban. He plans to begin his comeback at an ITF event in Tokyo.
Purcell received the suspension from the ITIA after exceeding limits on intravenous transfusions ahead of the 2024 season. No banned substances were found in his tests. The ban, initially set at two years, was reduced to 18 months and took effect from December 2024.
In 2024, Purcell and partner Jordan Thompson achieved a 44-12 record, reached the Wimbledon and US Open finals, and secured a world No. 8 ranking. Purcell had previously won the 2022 Wimbledon doubles title with Matthew Ebden.
Purcell stated on social media that his suspension has ended. He is currently in Tokyo and aims to compete at the Uchiyama Cup, a hard-court ITF event, as Wimbledon approaches.
