The Mexican team collected six points after beating South Africa 2-0 and South Korea 1-0. Coached by Javier Aguirre, it leads Group A and prepares to face Czechia next Wednesday at Estadio Ciudad de México.
The United States also reached six points by defeating Australia 2-0 in Seattle. Mauricio Pochettino’s side tops its group with two wins and remains among the strongest teams.
Germany came from behind to win 2-1 against Ivory Coast with goals from Deniz Undav in the 68th and 94th minutes. The result gave it six points and the Group E lead. Goalkeeper Manuel Neuer played his 21st World Cup match.
Haiti lost 3-0 to Brazil, Turkey fell 1-0 to Paraguay and Tunisia was routed 4-0 by Japan. All three teams have no chance of advancing.
