The mother of journalist Roxana Guzmán, kidnapped on June 2 in Veracruz, requested help from President Claudia Sheinbaum on June 5. Authorities continue search operations in three municipalities after identifying the vehicle used in the abduction.
Rubicelia Ramirez, mother of the journalist, intercepted Sheinbaum after a conference in Coatzacoalcos. She said: “Por favor, no se le olvide mi hija”. The president replied: “La están buscando”, while holding her hand. The kidnapping occurred on June 2 when armed men broke into Guzmán’s home in Veracruz. A video shows them using a mallet to break down the door and taking her by force. The family reported four days without messages or calls. Lisbeth Aurelia Jiménez Aguirre, Veracruz attorney general, said the vehicle was identified through surveillance videos. Search operations are underway in Nanchital, Moloacán and Cuichapa with support from the Navy, Defense and National Guard. Sheinbaum noted there are still no elements to confirm if the case is linked to her journalistic work.
