National Award-winning Malayalam actor Salim Kumar died of cardiac arrest on June 6 at a private hospital in Kochi. He was 56.
He was rushed to Amrita Hospital in Kochi on Saturday morning after complaining of fever and shortness of breath. He was placed on ventilator support. According to the hospital bulletin he suffered a cardiac arrest during treatment and could not be revived despite resuscitation efforts. Salim Kumar won the National Film Award for Best Actor for the 2010 film Adaminte Makan Abu. He was a four-time recipient of the Kerala State Film Award. He began with theatre and mimicry before his film debut in 1997. A known Congress supporter he campaigned for the UDF in the last assembly election. He is survived by wife Sunitha and sons Chandu Salim Kumar and Aaromal Salim Kumar.
