New SVT documentary on Zorn couple's love and class differences

SVT has released a new documentary about Anders and Emma Zorn, who reportedly fell in love at first sight. The film highlights the couple's efforts to establish themselves on the international art scene despite stark class differences. Johan Cederlund from Zornmuseet notes that their differing backgrounds made the relationship far from uncomplicated.

Anders Zorn grew up in the forests outside Mora and showed early talent for drawing. At just 15 years old, he was accepted into the Konstakademin in Stockholm. Emma Zorn, by contrast, came from a high bourgeois family in the capital. To gain her family's acceptance, Anders needed to establish himself as an artist and earn money, as detailed in SVT's documentary 'Zorn – om konsten att göra sig odödlig'. The film features Zorn experts and art specialists from Sweden and Europe recounting the couple's journey from Swedish origins to the salons of Parisian high culture. 'They come from such completely different classes, so it's not entirely uncomplicated', says Johan Cederlund, curator at Zornmuseet in Mora. The documentary examines how the couple navigated class differences and love to achieve international success. It is now available on SVT Play.
