NHL debuts 'My World' YouTube series on international players

The National Hockey League has launched a new short-form YouTube series titled 'NHL My World,' offering fans an authentic glimpse into the lives of players from eight different countries. The first three episodes, featuring Anaheim Ducks forward Leo Carlsson, Montreal Canadiens forward Juraj Slafkovský, and Ottawa Senators forward Tim Stützle, are now available. Additional episodes will release throughout January and into February.

The NHL's 'My World' series highlights how international players balance their professional careers with connections to their hometowns and NHL clubs. Each of the eight episodes focuses on a different player's daily life and reflections on representation, with all featured athletes named to their national teams for the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milano Cortina.

The debut episodes spotlight Sweden's Leo Carlsson of the Anaheim Ducks, Slovakia's Juraj Slafkovský of the Montreal Canadiens, and Germany's Tim Stützle of the Ottawa Senators. Carlsson, a 21-year-old from Karlstad, Sweden, shares his adjustment to life in Anaheim after moving to the United States three years ago. This marks his first NHL season without Swedish teammates, presenting challenges like navigating grocery stores. 'Three years ago I was just living in Sweden, now I’m in the NHL. It’s so cool to be here,' Carlsson said.

Carlsson also opens up about his lifelong speech impediment, stuttering, and how he uses his platform to raise awareness. 'It’s just nice for people to see that there are guys that play hockey at a high level that also stutter,' he noted. In his third NHL season, he serves as an alternate captain and is developing leadership skills. 'The leadership role for me this year is the start of something longer. Planning for the future, getting ready to take that role full on,' he added. A mic'd-up moment from the Ducks' 2025-26 home opener against the Pittsburgh Penguins captures his admiration for Sidney Crosby: 'What do you do against Crosby when you’re on your off-side? Such a short, hard stick.'

Upcoming episodes on January 19 will feature Switzerland's Roman Josi (Nashville Predators), Finland's Sebastian Aho (Carolina Hurricanes), and Czechia's Martin Nečas (Colorado Avalanche). The final two, on February 2, will highlight Canada's Mitch Marner (Vegas Golden Knights) and the United States' Zach Werenski (Columbus Blue Jackets).

Subtitles are available in seven languages—English, French, Finnish, Swedish, German, Czech, and Slovak—for international audiences. Exclusive extended clips appear on YouTube Shorts via NHL and NHL Europe channels. 'NHL MY WORLD’ is a great way for our fans to learn more about our international players, one story at a time,' said Matthew Cubeta, Vice President and Editor in Chief of NHL.com International. 'NHL’s YouTube channel gives us the ability to tell these stories in a way that is both international and accessible. We hope fans around the world love the series.'
