2016 Formula 1 champion Nico Rosberg has defended the sport's new 2026 regulations despite criticism from drivers. He argues that fans will embrace the changes if they produce close racing and intense title battles. Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli currently leads the championship after three races.
Nico Rosberg, the 2016 Formula 1 world champion, shared his views on the 2026 regulations in an interview with Bloomberg. The rules introduce a near 50:50 split between internal combustion and electric power, smaller and lighter cars, active aerodynamics, Overtake Mode, and a boost button. Rosberg highlighted their relevance, noting the power unit's efficiency and use of CO2-neutral synthetic and biofuel mixtures. He said, 'F1 is pursuing the technology that is most relevant to society, so this power unit is probably one of the most efficient there is in the world. 50:50, 50% battery power, that's a lot.'
