Dr Nobuhle Nkabane has been named acting chairperson of Parliament's Portfolio Committee on Agriculture. The move follows the appointment of former chairperson Dina Pule as Minister of Social Development.
Former Higher Education and Training Minister Dr Nobuhle Nkabane was appointed acting chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Agriculture. The appointment aims to maintain continuity in oversight work until a permanent chairperson is elected.
Nkabane takes the role after Dina Pule was sworn in as Minister of Social Development in a recent Cabinet reshuffle. Pule had previously served as Communications Minister under Jacob Zuma but was removed after findings of maladministration.
The committee stated that the interim appointment will allow it to continue its constitutional duties. Nkabane had been dismissed from her previous ministerial post amid controversy over SETA board appointments.
