The Socialist Party and the Broad Front criticized police handling of a student mobilization in Santiago. The march, called by CONFECH, resulted in 35 arrests and several injuries.
Around 4,500 people took part on Wednesday in the Alameda in a protest against the megareform of the government of José Antonio Kast, the Protected Schools project and education cuts. Authorities reported disturbances and arrests. The Socialist Party issued a statement expressing its “deep concern and rejection of the excessive use of force by Carabineros”. Acting secretary general Arturo Barrios said “this is a government that is polarizing Chile” and that the country is “returning to times we thought were overcome”. From the Broad Front, president Constanza Martínez accused the authority of changing the route at the last minute and causing “excessive repression”. Executive secretary Simón Ramírez recalled that the government must guarantee conditions for mobilizations to take place peacefully.
