Legend of Aang film details Paramount+ date, plot as franchise expands

Paramount has specified an October 9, 2026, premiere for the animated 'The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender' on Paramount+, confirming the theatrical skip announced last week. The story follows an adult Aang on a quest to secure an ancient power to save his culture. Highlights include casting Taika Waititi and Ke Huy Quan.

Building on last week's news of Avatar Studios' streaming pivot to Paramount+, more details have emerged on the flagship film 'The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender.' It will debut exclusively on the platform October 9, 2026.

The Hollywood Reporter shared the synopsis: Aang, now an adult and the world's last Airbender, discovers an ancient power that could prevent his culture's extinction. Joined by friends, he embarks on a global quest to claim it before adversaries exploit it, threatening the peace won in the original series.

The ensemble cast features Taika Waititi, Geraldine Viswanathan, Dee Bradley Baker, Peta Sergeant, Freida Pinto, and Ke Huy Quan, with creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko overseeing.

Paramount+ Head of Originals Jane Wiseman highlighted the service's role as the Avatar animated home, pairing this with upcoming 'Avatar: Seven Havens' series and alongside streaming of the original series and 'The Legend of Korra.' Live-action 'Avatar: The Last Airbender' Season 2 arrives next year, with Season 3 confirmed.

No footage is available yet, though adult Aang appeared in 'Korra' flashbacks.
