A consortium led by former pitcher Park Chan-ho has invested $70 million in the Athletics, marking the first South Korean stake in a Major League Baseball team.
Park Chan-ho announced Monday in Seoul that his Team61 consortium signed a strategic partnership with the Athletics. The team, formerly based in Oakland, is set to move to Las Vegas in 2028.
Park will serve as senior adviser to owner John Fisher on player development and Asian strategies. The first $55 million installment has been paid, with the remaining $15 million awaiting MLB approval.
Fisher said the partnership would help grow the Athletics and baseball in Asia. Park described the project as a bridge between South Korea and the United States.
