Pastor released after paying bail for accidental shooting in gun club

Samyr Enos de Almeida, a 65-year-old pastor, was released after paying a R$45,000 bail for an accidental shooting that killed a man at a gun club in northern São Paulo. The incident happened on Tuesday (December 16) and resulted in the death of Marcelo Satochi Tokuda, 51, shot in the heart. Almeida was arrested in flagrante for culpable homicide.

Samyr Enos de Almeida, pastor of the Ministério de Moriá since 2014 and partner in an accounting firm, regularly visited the gun club in northern São Paulo for firearm training. On Tuesday (December 16), he brought his Taurus G3 pistol to the site. According to the police report, Almeida removed the loaded magazine before leaving home and replaced it with an unloaded one. At the club, after receiving ammunition and a target at reception, he released the magazine catch to remove it and load it, at which point the gun fired accidentally. The pastor said he did not check if there was a round in the chamber.

Witnesses told police that, after receiving training materials, Almeida turned toward other attendees and fired the shot, hitting Marcelo Satochi Tokuda in the heart area. The 51-year-old victim died at the scene. Almeida, 65, was arrested in flagrante by the Military Police.

The Secretariat of Public Security (SSP) stated in a note that the perpetrator was charged with culpable homicide, where there is no intent to kill. The incident was recorded at the 72nd Police District (Vila Penteado), which requested forensics at the scene and seized the weapon used. According to Metrópoles reporting, the pastor was released after paying a R$45,000 bail in cash.
