Petter Emanuelsson retires after long hockey career

Swedish forward Petter Emanuelsson has announced the end of his professional hockey career. The 34-year-old cited multiple injuries and waning motivation as key factors in his decision.

Emanuelsson, known for his time with Skellefteå and Luleå, confirmed the retirement to NSD. He won two consecutive SM-guld titles with Skellefteå in 2013 and 2014. Between 2021 and 2025 he played in Finland's top league before sitting out the most recent season. He explained that the choice developed gradually. “Motivationen har inte riktigt funnits där, och det är mycket tid man lägger ned för att hela tiden bli bättre,” Emanuelsson said. Injuries also played a role, as he wants to maintain an active lifestyle without risking lasting damage. Emanuelsson is now studying part-time to become a physiotherapist or personal trainer. Training has long been a passion, and he has drawn knowledge from figures such as Petter Pettersson and Stefan Thomson.
