A Pew Research Center survey found that 37% of Muslim Americans have a favorable view of Hamas, while 84% of U.S. adults overall view the group unfavorably.
The findings were published by Pew Research Center in a March 2024 report on U.S. views of the Israel-Hamas war.
The poll was highlighted by The Daily Wire, which argued it reflected growing political visibility for Muslim Americans, pointing to New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani and Michigan Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed. Mamdani was sworn in as New York City mayor on Jan. 1, 2026, according to the city’s mayoral biography page.
In Michigan, the Democratic primary for U.S. Senate has narrowed to a contest between El-Sayed and Rep. Haley Stevens after state Sen. Mallory McMorrow suspended her campaign in early July 2026, according to reporting by The Associated Press. Recent polling and race reporting have described the contest as competitive rather than settled.
Separately, a report titled “Silenced No More: Sexual Terror Unveiled,” released May 12, 2026 by the Civil Commission on October 7th Crimes by Hamas Against Women and Children, said it documented what it described as patterns of sexual and gender-based violence during the Oct. 7, 2023 attacks and in subsequent hostage captivity. The report listed 13 categories of alleged abuse, including rape, sexual torture and forced nudity.
Pew’s data shows that views of Hamas are broadly negative across the U.S. public, while opinions among Muslim Americans are more divided.
