PinkPantheress has shared a TikTok video demonstrating how she produced her song 'Tonight' solely on her MacBook keyboard. The track serves as the lead single from her second mixtape 'Fancy That', released in April last year. She highlighted affordable production methods amid her recent BRIT Award win for Producer of the Year.
In a TikTok post earlier this month, PinkPantheress explained her production process for 'Tonight', the lead single from her second mixtape 'Fancy That', which came out in April last year. She produced the track alongside Aksel Arvid and Count Baldor, with Count Baldor handling the drums. The video begins with her stating, “Everyone’s been so cute about my production, so I’m going to show you how I made my song ‘Tonight’ off of ‘Fancy That’,” before demonstrating chord entry via Logic Pro’s Musical Typing function on her MacBook keyboard. Her caption read: “MIDI controllers can be expensive! Inputting them into whatever software use works just as well.” She added bass, pitch-shifted stems, and noted, “Shout out to any producer watching this. I used Logic, I used to use GarageBand, but we upgraded.” The post's caption also shouted out Askel Arvid and Panic! At The Disco, whose 2008 song ‘Do You Know What I’m Seeing?’ is sampled on 'Tonight'. She wrote, “Their work not only touches lives but also motivates many to pursue their dreams in the music industry.” This revelation follows her BRIT Award for Producer of the Year this month. The 'Fancy That' mixtape also features 'Illegal', named NME’s song of the year and described as an “adrenaline-fuelled thrillride” blending storytelling, sampling, quips, and beats. On its appeal, PinkPantheress said: “I don’t know if it’s anything too deep, other than having a [TikTok] trend for it helped and also the sample is quite timeless. I think the power of the beat itself is what people really like about it.” PinkPantheress has a run of UK and European dates for her ‘An Evening With…’ tour scheduled for May and June.
