The Boston Red Sox scored three runs over the final two innings to beat the New York Mets 3-2 in 10 innings Sunday at Citi Field. The victory completed a nine-game road sweep and extended their winning streak to nine games.
Interim manager Chad Tracy praised the team's mindset after the comeback. "I think when you leave on the plane to start the road trip, the mindset's like, 'Let's try to go win three series,'" he said. The win moved Boston to within a half-game of an AL Wild Card spot.
Rookie Payton Tolle pitched 3 2/3 innings, allowing one run. Brayan Bello followed in relief and permitted only a solo homer. Anthony Seigler drove in the go-ahead run in the 10th on a sacrifice fly.
"It's huge," Seigler said of the streak. "You can never count us out." The Red Sox had trailed after eight innings in 44 previous games this season without winning.
