Riley Green makes acting debut on Marshals as Kayce's teammate

Country singer Riley Green made his acting debut on CBS' Marshals, a Yellowstone spin-off, playing Garrett, a former SEAL teammate of Kayce Dutton. The character appears in Season 1 Episode 8, aired Sunday at 8/7c. Green shared details of his journey into acting in an interview with TVLine.

Riley Green stepped into acting for the first time as Garrett, a figure from Kayce and Cal's shared past as SEAL teammates. Kayce welcomes the surprise visit warmly, offering Garrett a place to stay, while Cal reacts with tension due to unresolved issues between them. This puts Kayce in a difficult position, forcing him to navigate the divide, Green explained to TVLine. Garrett appears carefree on the surface but carries deep personal demons similar to Kayce's struggles. Green credited Tim McGraw's performance in the Yellowstone prequel 1883 with inspiring him to pursue acting, despite his background in sports, fishing, and hunting rather than drama. A friendship with Marshals star Luke Grimes in Nashville led to the opportunity; Grimes encouraged him after Green expressed interest, and producers tailored a role for him. Green auditioned with Grimes in Utah. The episode features Green performing his song 'My Way,' with lyrics that align with the storyline. Producers gave him creative freedom for the moment, making him feel fully involved, Green said. 'I was really thrown right into it,' Green told TVLine of jumping into dialogue-heavy scenes without prior acting experience beyond music videos.

The country star discussed how the song's themes of love and lost time mirror Kayce Dutton's grief over his late wife Monica, building on his acting debut in Episode 8 (part of our Riley Green on Marshals coverage).
