Poet and musician Saul Williams has announced his first album in seven years. Leap Life is set for release on August 28 via Big Dada.
The project features contributions from Massive Attack’s Robert Del Naja, Kamasi Washington, Carlos Niño, Georgia Anne Muldrow, Surya Botofasina, Gonjasufi and Moor Mother. The latter two appear on the lead single “Conspiracy,” which includes an accompanying video.
Williams named the album after his leap-year birthday. He described it as an effort to connect with the dead amid ongoing crises in Palestine, Sudan, Haiti, Congo and Yemen.
“We’re going to need those spirits,” he said in a statement. “There’s an understanding that the soldiers in our struggle are not only the visible ones. There are people standing and fighting with us that we may not see.”
The 14-track album also includes songs such as “Baobab Constellation,” “The Dagger” and “Vengeful Spirit.”
