Lionel Scaloni announced Wednesday Argentina's final 26-player squad for the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada. AFA president Claudio Tapia immediately backed the selections on social media.
The list includes Lionel Messi, who will play in his sixth World Cup. New additions are Facundo Medina, Valentín Barco, Nico Paz, José Manuel López and Gianluca Simeone. Nicolás González and Gonzalo Montiel were also called up despite recent injury concerns.
Tapia posted on social media: “With all the strength of the Argentines. Yes, here we go once again. With faith, with excitement and with the enormous responsibility of defending the title”. He added that the 26 warriors will represent the country to raise the flag high.
Argentina will open the tournament on June 16 against Algeria at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City. Players begin concentration on June 1 in the same city and will play two warm-up matches against Honduras and Iceland.
