South Korea's Ministry of Science and ICT announced on Sunday, January 11, 2026, that it has aligned views with Nvidia on swiftly establishing a research and development facility in the country. Second Vice Science Minister Ryu Je-myung met with Jay Puri, Nvidia's executive vice president, at the company's headquarters in California on Friday local time.

According to the ministry, Ryu and Puri reached a consensus on the urgent need to set up Nvidia's R&D center in Korea and discussed strategies to jointly support artificial intelligence startups. This agreement underscores efforts to bolster Korea's AI ecosystem amid growing global competition in the sector.

The meeting reflects the Korean government's push to attract tech investments, particularly in AI and semiconductors. Nvidia, a leading U.S. chipmaker, is expanding its presence in Asia. Details were confirmed via the ministry's official statement.
