Activist Sonam Wangchuk addressed the Cockroach Janata Party’s protest in Bengaluru on June 14, calling for government accountability and a free press amid concerns over exam irregularities and systemic issues.
The protest took place at Freedom Park despite steady rain, drawing participants including actors Prakash Raj and Kiran Srinivas, along with filmmakers Senani Hegde and Krupakar B.S.
Wangchuk stated that India faces not only a fiscal deficit but also a trust deficit. He urged the government to ensure accountability and a free press, saying, “Otherwise, please declare that India is no longer a democracy. It has become a totalitarian country.”
He described the education system as broken, citing recent irregularities in NEET and CBSE examinations as symptoms of deeper problems. “The problem is the system. The system is broken,” he said, adding concerns about corruption extending beyond exams.
Prakash Raj expressed support, saying he dreamed of Wangchuk as Education Minister and questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s silence on exam paper leaks. CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke highlighted the need to reject communal politics and affirmed willingness to face arrest for freedom of speech.
