West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee criticised the BJP's promise to implement the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) at a rally in Keshiary, Paschim Medinipur district. She stated it would strip people of the right to practise their religion and faith. Banerjee also slammed the Delimitation Bill cleared by the Union Cabinet.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee targeted the BJP at a rally in Keshiary, Paschim Medinipur district, on Saturday. She stated, "Their (BJP's) manifesto is filled with lies. Implementing UCC means you will lose the right to practise your religion and faith. It will take away your culture, tradition and education. UCC means destruction of diversity. They want to make everything homogeneous. We will oppose this. UCC is dangerous."
Banerjee criticised the Delimitation Bill cleared by the Union Cabinet for tabling in Parliament. She said, "The Delimitation Bill will be introduced. Why is there such a hurry? Why during election time? They are planning to break Bengal into pieces. Then they will bring NRC in the future. If you don’t want to go to detention camps and keep on getting the benefits of our social welfare schemes like Khadya Sathi, Laxmir Bhandar, Kanyashree, then cast your vote in favour of TMC. Consider me the candidate in all the 294 seats."
She alleged curbs on eating meat, fish and eggs in BJP-ruled states, questioning who gave them the right to impose diktats on dietary habits. Banerjee claimed voter names were being deleted indiscriminately, with 90 lakh total, 60 lakh Hindus and 30 lakh Muslims. She warned against sharing bank details with alleged BJP agents and urged TMC workers to vigil on EVMs and counting.
Banerjee highlighted the Laxmir Bhandar scheme, providing Rs 1,500 to general caste women and Rs 1,700 to SC and ST women. She added that she had kept all her promises.
