Sony Pictures is in early talks to lease and operate the historic Cinerama Dome and ArcLight Hollywood complex in Los Angeles. The venues have remained closed since 2020 following the bankruptcy of Pacific Theatres. Alamo Drafthouse, acquired by Sony in 2024, is expected to play a role in operations.
The Culver City studio is negotiating a lease with Robertson Property Group, the owner of the property at 6360 Sunset Blvd. Details remain under discussion, including any reopening timeline.
The Cinerama Dome opened in 1963 as a showcase for the three-panel Cinerama process. It later became one of the city’s top-grossing multiplexes and hosted premieres, including a preview of Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
Pacific Theatres closed the complex permanently after COVID lockdowns. The ArcLight name cannot be used again because of Chapter 7 proceedings. Both Sony and Decurion Corp declined to comment.
Alamo Drafthouse currently runs a 10-screen cinema in downtown Los Angeles. The new arrangement would mark Sony’s further expansion into exhibition.
