Teresa Marie Mills faces charges of vulnerable adult abuse and neglect after police say she left her 90-year-old husband alone at their North Charleston home.
North Charleston Police responded to a welfare check at a home on North Kentwood Drive around 7:30 p.m. on Sunday. Officers found the man sitting alone on the porch, disoriented and bleeding from injuries.
Mills told police she had left her husband alone the previous night to have dinner with friends. She said she saw he was injured upon returning but did not seek medical help.
Police described the home's conditions as deplorable, with strong odors, feces and urine stains, and signs of rodent activity. The victim was placed in emergency protective custody and taken to a hospital.
Mills was arrested and booked into the Al Cannon Detention Center. She was not listed as an inmate there as of Monday evening.
