South Carolina guardians charged with homicide by child abuse

Two legal guardians in South Carolina have been charged with homicide by child abuse following the death of a 4-year-old girl. Nancy Dianne West, 42, and Bradley Kyle Craig, 46, were arrested this week in connection with the case.

Deputies responded to a 911 call on April 24 at a home on the 1300 block of Chinquapin Road in Travelers Rest. The child, identified as Cassie Cheryl Ann Owens, was found unresponsive and later pronounced dead at a hospital after suffering cardiac arrest. Investigators accused West and Craig of depriving the child of proper nutrition. The Greenville County Sheriff's Office said the pair were the girl's legal guardians at the time of her death. West and Craig were booked into the Greenville County Detention Center. An earlier allegation of assault at the home occurred on March 28, 2025, when Craig reportedly admitted to striking a child. The charges were announced by the sheriff's office after the investigation into the April incident.
