The Pittsburgh Steelers claimed punter Aidan Laros off waivers from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on June 9 and released wide receiver Brandon Johnson in a corresponding move.
The team announced the transactions the same day. Johnson, a vested veteran, had his contract terminated and was not subject to waivers. Laros has not yet punted in an NFL game. He played college football at Charlotte, the University of Tennessee at Martin and Kentucky, where he averaged 44.9 yards per punt over two seasons. He signed with Tampa Bay as an undrafted free agent before being waived when the Buccaneers signed kicker B.T. Potter. Laros will compete with punter Cameron Johnston, who returned to the Steelers on a one-year contract this offseason. The move brings the Steelers' specialist roster to five players.
