Guardians activate Angel Martínez from injured list

The Cleveland Guardians activated outfielder Angel Martínez from the 10-day injured list and placed him in the leadoff spot for Friday night's game against the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg.

Left-handed reliever Tim Herrin was also activated from the 15-day injured list. Left-handed reliever Will Dion and utility player Daniel Schneemann were optioned to Triple-A Columbus.

Martínez suffered a non-displaced left foot fracture after fouling a ball off his foot on June 13. At the time of the injury he was batting .239 with 11 home runs and 33 RBIs in 66 games.

“I’m really happy to be back with the team,” Martínez said. “It seems like a long time. The biggest thing was staying patient and making sure I recovered well.”

Manager Stephen Vogt said the team now has zero players on the injured list. “Our medical staff does a tremendous job,” Vogt said. “Our goal is to keep as many of our guys on the field as possible.”
