The Pittsburgh Steelers are set to open the 2026 NFL season at home and could repeat the feat in 2027, thanks to the newly released MLB schedule for the Pittsburgh Pirates.
The Steelers will face the Atlanta Falcons in their 2026 home opener. The MLB schedule announced on July 16 shows the Pirates on the road the weekend of September 12, which aligns with the likely start of the 2027 NFL season.
This setup would give Pittsburgh consecutive home openers for the first time since 2013 and 2014. The team lost to the Tennessee Titans in 2013 and defeated the Cleveland Browns in 2014.
The Pirates are also scheduled to host the Milwaukee Brewers over Labor Day weekend in 2027, assuming the season proceeds without interruption. The Steelers last hosted a home opener in 2023, falling to the San Francisco 49ers.
While an international game or road matchup remains possible, the current MLB schedule creates a strong likelihood of back-to-back home starts. The 2027 season will mark the first year without Aaron Rodgers under center.
