Deputy Minister of Diktisaintek Stella Christie has enrolled her son Bayu Czech at SD Santa Ursula in central Jakarta. The move follows their separation of 1 year and 8 months.
Bayu is now a fourth-grade student at SD Santa Ursula. Stella chose a public school instead of an international one so that her son could fully connect with Indonesia and learn to read and write in his mother tongue.
“Basic education is the time to learn to write and read in the mother tongue. A time to appreciate and respect cultural heritage and the homeland,” Stella wrote on Instagram @prof.stellachristie.
Bayu previously attended a public school in Beijing that used Mandarin. Stella and her husband Bartek Czech had delayed the move due to concerns about adaptation after Stella was appointed deputy minister.
“However at this stage, stability is not as important as the relationship with his mother and also the relationship with his homeland,” Stella said. She expressed worries about new friends and her role as a mother amid work demands.
