RC Strasbourg players were heavily insulted by La Meinau ultras on Thursday evening following their Conference League semi-final exit to Rayo Vallecano.
Eliminated on a 0-2 aggregate score, the Strasbourg side ended their European campaign on a bitter note. At the final whistle, angry supporters directed insults and middle fingers toward the players who had come to salute them.
Captain Emanuel Emegha, unavailable for the match and dressed in black, stepped forward in an attempt to calm the crowd in front of his stunned teammates. The scene marked the close of a nightmare evening at La Meinau stadium.
Club president Marc Keller and owner Nasser Al-Khelaïfi were in the stands to witness the unexpected exit.
