Sturgill Simpson threatens leakers of Mutiny After Midnight album

Sturgill Simpson, performing as Johnny Blue Skies, has vowed to pursue those who leaked and sold his new album Mutiny After Midnight on Bandcamp. He promised refunds for affected buyers and strong action against the perpetrators. The album is currently available only in physical formats.

Sturgill Simpson, who now uses the moniker Johnny Blue Skies, addressed a scam involving a leaked version of his latest album, Mutiny After Midnight. Over the weekend, someone pretending to be associated with him posted and sold a digital version on Bandcamp, despite the album being available only in physical formats so far (Pitchfork, March 16, 2026). Simpson recently indicated that it will likely appear on streaming services at some point, but no official digital release has occurred yet. On Sunday, Simpson posted on Instagram: “No ..we are not selling the digital album on bandcamp kids…but somebody pretending to be us is claiming they are.” He added that his team is in contact with Bandcamp and relevant parties, gathering credit card, transaction, and IP information. “We got all them tools bitches! All those affected will be refunded and the miserable shit asses responsible will be keelhauled,” he wrote, referencing the historical naval punishment. Simpson followed up: “we’re gonna duke nukem.” The post, first noted by Stereogum, underscores Simpson's determination to resolve the issue and compensate buyers. No further details on the investigation were provided in the statement.
