Tadej Pogacar won his fifth Tour de France on Sunday in Paris. The Slovenian joins record holders Jacques Anquetil, Eddy Merckx, Bernard Hinault and Miguel Indurain.
The Slovenian finished the 2026 edition in Paris on the Champs-Élysées after a total victory. The 21st and final stage, reduced to 89 km due to fires in France, was won by Mathieu Van der Poel.
Pogacar told AFP: "To win the Tour de France, you have to suffer a lot." He added that he wanted to enjoy the moment without thinking about history and mentioned a new goal after savoring this win.
The rider also mentioned his teammate Isaac Del Toro, third and best young rider, as well as nighttime anti-doping controls that he compared to daily routines. The edition recorded a record average speed of 43.227 km/h.
