Tanta Ginting chooses musicals over films as biggest challenge

Tanta Ginting selects musical theatre as her biggest career challenge over film acting. She returns to the stage via the “MAR” musical after a long hiatus due to a lack of musical ecosystem in Indonesia. The show is scheduled for 15–17 May 2026 at Ciputra Artpreneur.

Jakarta, 2 May 2026 – Tanta Ginting expressed her preference for musical theatre when met in Jakarta. She explained that musicals require mastering three aspects simultaneously: body movement, vocal technique, and acting.

Tanta highlighted the added difficulty of live performances.

She had left musicals due to a lack of community. “Jadi akhirnya aku dengan berat hati harus meninggalkan dunia musikal karena memang tidak ada komunitasnya,” she said. Now, through an offer from director Maera for “MAR”, she accepted the challenge.

The “MAR” musical lifts works by Ismail Marzuki, set in Indonesia's 1946 history with characters Mar and Aryati amid Bandung Lautan Api. ArtSwara brings back the show due to audience demand and director Maera's desire to explore deeper.
