Teen beaten by police risks losing legs

Felix Senet Takona, a 17-year-old student, faces the risk of leg amputation after being beaten and doused with acid by police while in custody. He was arrested on October 10, 2025, on theft charges and is now fighting for his life in hospital. Police say they are investigating the incident.

Felix Senet Takona, a 17-year-old secondary school student, was arrested on October 10, 2025, at 8 a.m. in the Naroosura shopping center, Narok South sub-county, on suspicion of stealing bicycle tires. While in custody at Naroosura police station, he was allegedly beaten by two officers who chained him and poured a chemical he suspects was acid on his legs. "I was arrested at 8 a.m. on October 10 in the Naroosura shopping center. In custody, two policemen chained me, beat me, and injured me to make me confess to crimes I did not commit," Felix said from the hospital, with a cast on his arm and guarded by police.

"They poured acid on my legs and prevented my family from seeing me. I was beaten every night in custody, and they told me to accept the charges or they would kill me," he added. He was transferred to the police station on October 12, and on October 13 appeared in court where the charges were amended from stealing bicycle tires to breaking into a building and theft. The magistrate ordered he be taken to hospital for treatment before formal charges are presented for him to plead.

The following day, he was charged with breaking into a shop and stealing 10 liters of cooking oil worth Sh2,500 along with Sh34,000 in cash. Doctors at Narok County Referral Hospital say his injuries are severe and he may need his leg amputated to save his life. Two weeks later, Felix is still struggling to survive in the hospital.

Narok County Police Commander Riko Ngare said officers are investigating the boy's case to establish the truth. The incident highlights claims of police brutality against youth in county areas.
