Ten coaches sacked in Brazilian Championship after ten rounds

Dorival Júnior's dismissal from Corinthians after a 1-0 loss to Internacional in the tenth round brought the total to ten coaches sacked in Brazil's top football league. Fernando Diniz, formerly of Vasco, is close to agreeing terms to take over at the São Paulo club. The tournament now averages one firing per round.

Dorival Júnior departed Corinthians immediately after the 1-0 defeat to Internacional on Sunday (5). During his tenure, the team won the 2025 Copa do Brasil against Vasco, then coached by Diniz, and the Supercopa do Brasil over Flamengo. Overall, he achieved a 48.9% win rate in 66 matches, with 26 wins, 19 draws, and 21 losses. In this year's Brasileirão, performance dropped to 33.3%, with two wins, four draws, and four losses in ten games.

Fernando Diniz, available since leaving Vasco, is finalizing an agreement to become Corinthians' new coach, as reported on Monday (6).

Other sacked coaches include Jorge Sampaoli (Atlético-MG, after three rounds), Fernando Diniz (Vasco, three rounds), Juan Carlos Osório (Remo), Filipe Luís (Flamengo, three matches), Hernán Crespo (vice-leaders at the time, four rounds), Tite (Cruzeiro, six rounds), Juan Pablo Vojvoda (Santos), Martín Anselmi (Botafogo), and Gilmar Dal Pozzo (Chapecoense). Dorival is the fourth Brazilian on the list, alongside five Argentines and one Colombian.

The turnover highlights an unstable start to the national competition.

Flamengo announced on Wednesday the hiring of Portuguese coach Leonardo Jardim, who replaces Filipe Luís, dismissed despite recent titles. The new manager, who led Cruzeiro in 2025, signed until December 2027 and will debut in the classic against Fluminense for the Carioca. The move reflects Flamengo's rocky start to the 2026 season.
