A 31-year-old woman was arrested in Tennessee after she allegedly tried to drown a child in a backyard swimming pool.
Mikaylee Rae Beirne faces one count of aggravated child abuse, neglect, or endangerment. The incident occurred Wednesday afternoon at a home on Cochran Road in Jonesborough.
Deputies responded shortly before 5 p.m. after receiving a report of a disturbance at the pool. According to the Washington County Sheriff's Office, Beirne was in the water with several children when another adult learned she was forcing one child underwater.
The witness ran outside, demanded that Beirne release the child, and then pulled her away to help the victim. All the children were brought inside, and authorities were called. Beirne left the scene before deputies arrived but was located and taken into custody without incident.
The child suffered minor injuries and bruising. Beirne was booked into the Washington County Detention Center on a $50,000 bond and appeared in court Thursday.
