Roland Contreras, 35, received a 50-year prison sentence for murdering Gabrielle Felis Del Angel, 33, and assaulting her husband outside a San Antonio taco truck. The shooting occurred in April 2023 after Contreras yelled at the husband and pursued their vehicle. A jury convicted him in under 30 minutes.
On March 28, the Bexar County Criminal District Attorney's Office announced that Roland Contreras had been sentenced to 50 years in prison for the murder of Gabrielle Felis Del Angel and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon against her husband. The incident took place on the night of April 6, 2023, at a taco truck on the 1800 block of Southwest Military Drive in San Antonio, Texas. Del Angel's husband was waiting in line for food while she waited in their Jeep. Contreras approached the husband, pulled out a gun, and yelled at him. The husband fled back to the Jeep and attempted to drive away, but Contreras pursued and fired, striking Del Angel in the chest. She was not his intended target, according to police. The husband drove to a nearby gas station and called for help, but Del Angel was pronounced dead. Authorities identified Contreras through the husband's recognition from a past connection with an ex-girlfriend. Police attempted to arrest him that night, using tear gas at his home, but he evaded capture until about a month later. A jury deliberated for roughly 30 minutes before finding him guilty, as reported by KSAT. Bexar County District Attorney Joe Gonzales stated, 'Today we reaffirm our stand against violence. Our goal will continue to be seeking justice on behalf of victims and holding offenders accountable for their unlawful actions.' Del Angel, a special education teacher and mother of three, was remembered in her obituary as 'a loving and caring mother who adored her children more than anything in this world. Everything she did was for them.'
