TGV Sud-Est line disrupted near Lyon due to power failure and heat

On Monday 25 May 2026, the TGV Sud-Est line was heavily disrupted near Lyon by a power supply failure at Montanay. Delays of 2.5 to 4 hours affected several trains, and passengers from two Paris-Nice TGVs were evacuated onto the tracks due to the heat.

According to the SNCF, the issue caused extended journey times on the affected line. Trains from Grenoble and Avignon Centre, due at 17:46 at Paris Gare de Lyon, experienced significant delays.

Two Paris-Nice TGVs remained stationary for several hours following a catenary rupture. Without air conditioning, hundreds of passengers stepped onto the tracks to get fresh air after other trains were rerouted.

By 21:50, one of the two TGVs had departed and the second was about to do so. Circulation was never fully interrupted, SNCF Réseau stated. An investigation will determine the cause of the outage.
