Two Matehuala officials detained for drugs and alleged link to electricians' kidnapping

Authorities detained Jorge “N”, Matehuala’s public security secretary, and Pablo Ernesto “N”, a former municipal official, for drug possession. Both are presumed involved in the illegal deprivation of seven electricians who disappeared on March 21 in San Luis Potosí and were later found alive. The detainees carried marijuana and crystal meth, along with vehicles.

In recent operations, state and federal elements detained Jorge “N”, 42, identified as Matehuala’s municipal police director and public security secretary. He was found with 52 bags of marijuana weighing 334 grams and three bags of crystal meth weighing 30 grams, plus an official Nissan Versa vehicle. The arrest stemmed from an anonymous tip, sources from the PAN-led ayuntamiento under Raúl Ortega Rodríguez reported. In a second operation, Pablo Ernesto “N”, 40, former head of commerce, public works, alcohol, and security areas, was apprehended with 29 doses of marijuana totaling 180 grams and a 2025 Chevrolet pickup truck. Both are presumed linked to the case of seven electricians from Cárdenas who disappeared on March 21 while returning via the Matehuala-Cárdenas highway after work in the Potosí highlands. The workers are Ángel Daniel Pérez López, Miguel Ángel Pérez Olivo, Jaciel Zapata García, Omar Godoy Galván, Said Hernán Olvera, Celso López González, and Macario Torres Castillo, aged 20 to 30. Matehuala’s municipal government announced on social media that they were found alive and are at the San Luis Potosí State Attorney General’s Office for corresponding procedures. “The Municipal Government recognizes the coordination between security and justice agencies that enabled their location,” the statement read. A third person alerted authorities to a possible illegal deprivation, though the location and circumstances remain undisclosed. The incident echoes prior cases in Matehuala, such as the kidnapping of undocumented migrants years ago involving former officials.
