Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has declined to host a group of young people planning to visit his Ichaweri home in Gatundu on Sunday. His office stated that organizers must formally notify them in advance for arrangements. Nonetheless, Uhuru expressed openness to engaging with Kenyans on matters promoting unity.
The office of the Fourth President of the Republic of Kenya, H.E. Uhuru Kenyatta, has confirmed that the former president cannot host the group of young people today. In a statement from his Secretary of Communication, Kanze Dena, it was explained that the visit organizers should formally consult with Uhuru's office in advance to allow for proper preparations.
"The Office of the 4th President of the Republic of Kenya, H.E. Uhuru Kenyatta, has noted reports of an intended visit by a group of young people to his residence in Ichaweri, Gatundu," the statement reads. "He firmly believes that dialogue between generations is essential for shaping the future of our nation, and he welcomes opportunities for constructive engagement."
Kanze Dena added that Uhuru will continue to support the youth and respect their energy, ideas, and patriotism, which they have demonstrated in recent years. This announcement follows a day after the Jubilee party rejected claims that it had organized a Gen-Z event at Uhuru's home.
In its Saturday statement, the party described the reports as misleading and not reflective of the former president's position. It urged the public to verify information through its official social media accounts. The party assured continued engagement with youth via appropriate channels and structures.
“We wish to remind all our officials, members, and the general public that any formal communication regarding the Party Leader is issued exclusively through the verified Office of the 4th President of the Republic of Kenya and the official Jubilee Party platforms,” the party's statement added.
