Uppsala Vatten warns against drinking municipal water in Vänge after a uranium filter broke. The disruption is expected to last over a day and 1,200 people are advised to collect water from emergency tanks.
Uppsala Vatten discovered the operational disruption during the night to Wednesday at the water plant in Vänge just west of Uppsala.
The filter that removes uranium is not working which led to extensive work and sampling according to drinking water manager Maria Lindqvist Petterson.
The water can be used for toilets and hygiene but residents should be careful when showering and not swallow water especially when showering children.
Emergency water tanks have been placed at Vänge school and in central Vänge. The problem may be resolved by Thursday afternoon according to Uppsala Vatten.
