Integration and Regional Development Minister Waldez Góes has withdrawn from the Amapá Senate race to remain in his post, following a request from President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. Polls had placed him fourth. Lula intends to back Randolfe Rodrigues' re-election bid in the state.
Waldez Góes, the Integration and Regional Development Minister, issued a statement saying he stepped back from the Amapá Senate contest at Lula's request. He had the backing of Senate President Davi Alcolumbre (União-AP) but chose to stay in the government.
An AtlasIntel poll released on April 1 placed Góes fourth in voting intentions. In Amapá, President Lula plans to support the re-election of Randolfe Rodrigues (PT), the government's leader in Congress.
On the same day, April 2, Social Security Minister Wolney Queiroz (PDT-PE) announced he too withdrew from a federal deputy race to remain in his position.
