Wisconsin man ruled competent in autistic teen's drowning death

A Wisconsin judge has ruled that Tylor Birch is competent to stand trial for reckless homicide in the drowning of 13-year-old Jakob Bowerman. Birch and teenager Peyton Carnot allegedly swung the boy, who could not swim, off a pier into a lake last year. Both face charges in connection with the August 2025 incident.

Tylor Birch, 21, appeared remotely in Marinette County Circuit Court on April 2, where a psychologist's report confirmed his competency to stand trial. Both the defense and prosecution accepted the findings, overturning an earlier contested ruling. Birch's next hearing is set for April 30, according to local court reporting by WBAY-TV 11 News.
