Alexander Zverev defeated Flavio Cobolli in five sets to win the 2026 French Open final on Sunday. The German secured his first Grand Slam title after a match lasting four hours and 16 minutes.
Zverev took the first set 6-1 before Cobolli leveled the match. The German broke in the third set to lead two sets to one. Cobolli forced a fifth set by winning the fourth in a tiebreak. During the fourth set at 5-4, Zverev received medication from friend Marcelo Melo courtside. Commentator Jim Courier noted the unusual interaction. 'I have never seen a player be allowed to even engage with another player. Marcelo Melo is not part of the medical staff,' Courier said. Zverev received a time violation for the delay but went on to win the deciding set 6-1. Courier also highlighted a similar situation involving Jannik Sinner earlier in the tournament that drew no violation. The incident occurred during one of the match's tensest moments but did not prevent Zverev from claiming the title.
