1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1 R-Code 428 nears auction close

A 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1 equipped with an R-Code 428 Cobra Jet engine is attracting bids in an online auction set to end Tuesday afternoon in North Salt Lake, Utah. The vehicle, from the Hank’s Garage Car Collection, has reached $55,750 with 22 bids and nearly 16,000 views. It features documented history and factory-original specifications.

The auction for this 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1, powered by an R-Code 428 Cobra Jet V8 with Ram Air induction and rated at 335 horsepower, is being handled by Broad Arrow, a Hagerty subsidiary. Built on May 12, 1969, at Ford’s Dearborn, Michigan, assembly plant and distributed via the Louisville district, the car pairs the engine with a close-ratio four-speed manual transmission and a 3.50:1 rear axle ratio featuring a locking differential.

Exterior details include a refinished Wimbledon White paint with red and gold side and rear stripes, a matte-black hood with pins, and Mach 1-specific elements like a pop-open chrome gas cap, grille-mounted sport lamps, and racing mirrors on its SportsRoof body. The interior is fitted with Dark Red Clarion knit-vinyl upholstery, high-back bucket seats, and the optional Sport Deck rear seat package with fold-down seats and trunk access.

Standard equipment encompasses power steering, a woodgrain steering wheel, center console, Philco AM radio, full sound deadening, a 120-mph speedometer, and an 8,000-rpm tachometer. Maintenance records from 2008 onward cover cooling system work, exhaust installation, and shifter replacement, with the car currently on BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires.

The listing highlights minor cosmetic issues, including paint chips, scratches near the mirrors, headliner wrinkling, and wear in the console compartment. The cigarette lighter does not function, but gauges, signals, and major lighting systems operate normally. Included with the sale are service receipts, a Deluxe Marti Report, the owner’s manual, and a clean Utah title.

The Mach 1 model debuted in 1969 as Ford’s top performance option, succeeding the GT lineup. This example originates from the Hank’s Garage collection and is listed in North Salt Lake.
