2025 BBWAA awards finalists announced for MVP, Cy Young and more

The Baseball Writers' Association of America revealed the finalists for its 2025 end-of-season awards on Monday, highlighting top performers in the Most Valuable Player, Cy Young, Rookie of the Year and Manager of the Year categories for both leagues. Shohei Ohtani leads NL MVP favorites after a dominant two-way season with the Dodgers, while Aaron Judge and Cal Raleigh headline the AL race. Winners will be announced starting November 10 on MLB Network.

The BBWAA awards recognize regular-season excellence, with voting completed before the playoffs. Finalists were listed in alphabetical order and revealed live on MLB Network.

National League MVP Finalists

  • Shohei Ohtani (Dodgers, DH/SP): Batted .282 with 55 home runs, 20 stolen bases, 102 RBIs, an MLB-high 146 runs scored and an NL-best 1.014 OPS. As a pitcher, posted a 2.87 ERA with 62 strikeouts in 47 innings over 14 starts. Ohtani is favored for his fourth MVP in five years, joining Barry Bonds as a four-time winner.
  • Kyle Schwarber (Phillies, DH): Hit 56 home runs to win his second NL crown and led MLB with 132 RBIs, helping Philadelphia to the NL East title.
  • Juan Soto (Mets, RF): Slugged 43 home runs, led the NL with 38 stolen bases, added 105 RBIs and 120 runs, with a .396 on-base percentage.

American League MVP Finalists

  • Aaron Judge (Yankees, RF): Hit 53 home runs for the fourth time, led the AL in runs (137) and walks (124), with a .331/.457/.688 slash line and MLB-leading 9.7 WAR.
  • Cal Raleigh (Mariners, C): Became the first catcher to hit 60 home runs, led the AL with 125 RBIs and a 169 OPS+, while catching over 1,000 innings en route to Seattle's first division title since 2001.
  • José Ramírez (Guardians, 3B): Posted a second straight 30-40 season with 30 home runs and 44 stolen bases, hitting .283/.360/.503 (137 OPS+) for Cleveland's AL Central-winning comeback from a 15.5-game deficit.

Cy Young Award Finalists

NL: Cristopher Sánchez (Phillies, 13-5, 2.50 ERA, 212 K in 202 IP); Paul Skenes (Pirates, 1.97 ERA, 216 K in 187 2/3 IP); Yoshinobu Yamamoto (Dodgers, 12-8, 2.49 ERA, 201 K in 173 2/3 IP).
AL: Hunter Brown (Astros, 2.43 ERA, 206 K); Garrett Crochet (Red Sox, 2.59 ERA, 255 K in 205 1/3 IP); Tarik Skubal (Tigers, 2.21 ERA, 241 K in 195 1/3 IP).

Jackie Robinson Rookie of the Year Finalists

NL: Drake Baldwin (Braves, .274, 19 HR, 80 RBIs); Caleb Durbin (Brewers, .256, 11 HR, 18 SB); Cade Horton (Cubs, 11-4, 2.67 ERA).
AL: Roman Anthony (Red Sox, .319/.415/.505 in final 56 games); Nick Kurtz (Athletics, 36 HR, 173 OPS+); Jacob Wilson (Athletics, .311 AVG).

Manager of the Year Finalists

NL: Terry Francona (Reds, surprise Wild Card); Pat Murphy (Brewers, 97-65 best record, NLDS win); Rob Thomson (Phillies, 96-66, second straight division title).
AL: John Schneider (Blue Jays, worst-to-first AL East); Stephen Vogt (Guardians, historic comeback to AL Central); Dan Wilson (Mariners, first division title since 2001).
