The Backcountry Discovery Routes organization has revealed a new BDR-X route through the Ozark Mountains in Arkansas, designed for weekend adventure motorcycling. This 480-mile loop starts and ends in Jasper, offering gravel roads, scenic overlooks, and optional challenging sections. The route will launch with a public event in Rogers, Arkansas, on April 2.
Arkansas has long been considered a hidden gem for motorcycling in the continental United States, and the Backcountry Discovery Routes (BDR) aims to change that with its latest addition. Published on March 12, 2026, the announcement highlights the Ozarks BDR-X, a shorter variant of BDR's multi-day routes introduced in 2022 to fit weekend itineraries.
The route forms a 480-mile loop beginning and ending in Jasper, Arkansas, near the Buffalo National River. It traverses gravel roads and winding pavement through the Boston Mountains in the Ozark-St. Francis National Forest. Riders can expect moderate challenges like water crossings, with 10 optional extra-difficulty sections for added thrill. Key stops include the historic Oark General Store, the panoramic Hawksbill Crag overlook, and the Arkansas Dragon switchbacks leading into Mt. Judea.
Michael Bielecki, BDR's Route Architect, Film Director, and Routes Manager, described the area as offering "some of the most underrated adventure riding terrain in the country." He added, "This route is packed with incredible scenery, fun technical riding, and the welcoming small towns that make adventure travel so memorable. We’re excited to finally bring a BDR-style route to this incredible region."
The Ozarks BDR-X is positioned as accessible from the Midwest, a region with fewer rugged biking options. Its official launch occurs at an event hosted by Mach 1 Powersports in Rogers, Arkansas, on Thursday, April 2. The gathering starts at 4:00 p.m. Central Time, followed by a live YouTube broadcast at 6:00 p.m. Attendees and online viewers will gain access to free GPS tracks, digital maps, the official printed Ozarks BDR-X map, and travel resources via RideBDR.com.
