Brewers dedicate mural to Hank Aaron on final home run anniversary

The Milwaukee Brewers honored Hank Aaron with a new mural dedication on Monday marking the 50th anniversary of his 755th and final home run. The event took place at the Clinton Rose Senior Center in Milwaukee's Bronzeville neighborhood. Aaron's widow, Billye Aaron, attended and reflected on their time with the team.

The 89-year-old Billye Aaron spoke at the ceremony, recalling how her husband returned to Milwaukee for his final two seasons. She credited Bud Selig with convincing Aaron to come back after he initially felt his best days were over. Aaron hit the record-setting home run on July 20, 1976, while playing for the Brewers.

The mural was created by artists Rosy Petri and Moolah Bred. The Brewers also displayed artifacts from Aaron's career outside the press box during their game against the Mets, including the seat struck by the final home run. Winners of a youth essay contest about Aaron's impact were recognized on the field.

Billye Aaron expressed gratitude to Milwaukee fans for their ongoing support of her husband's legacy. A plaque already marks the exact location of the 1976 home run in a parking lot near American Family Field.
