Cannes film festival opens with star jury and red carpet

The 79th Cannes Film Festival kicked off in France with an opening ceremony at the Grand Théâtre Lumière. French-Malian actress Eye Haïdara led proceedings that introduced the international jury and screened the opening film.

The jury includes president Park Chan-wook, the first Korean in the role, along with Demi Moore, Ruth Negga, Laura Wandel, Chloé Zhao, Diego Céspedes, Isaach De Bankolé, Paul Laverty and Stellan Skarsgård. A performance by Theodora and Oklou followed the presentation before the screening of The Electric Venus by Pierre Salvadori.
